DISC SPORTS
| DISC GOLF |
|
| This is currently one
of the more popular disc sports. The game is played basically like ball golf but instead
of throwing the disc in to a hole, tees are designated and natural objects (like trees and
poles) are selected as the holes. 18 holes is the standard but if you have limited space 9
will be fine. Championship par is 3. Official disc golf courses are all ready in place in
some parts of the country. Be creative in designing your own course. |
| DISCATHON |
| This is a running and
throwing accuracy event. It is played on a course usually a kilometer in length. The
object is to race around the course while throwing the disc, running up to it, throwing
another disc and and pick up your other disc all the way through the course to the finish
line. |
|
| Natural objects define
the exact course players must follow. Arrows are placed on trees and posts, these are
called mandatories and designate the path to be followed on the course. (Example, an arrow
may be placed on a tree pointing to the left side of the tree this tells the runner that
they must throw the disc to the left side of that tree.) In some cases you may want to
design a course including double mandatories which would mean that you want the disc to
travel between two objects. This is used when two trees or poles are close to each other.
Double mandatories make the course interesting and difficult for the thrower because he
now has to throw the disc between two objects as opposed to around one object. A twenty
second penalty is assessed for missed mandatories. |
| Four racers run the course at the same time. |
