| DISC IN AND OUT OF PLAY |
The
disc is out of play only: (a) when it touches the ground or a player
outside of the field boundries. (b) when the play has been stopped by the
Referee. The disc is in play
when: (a) it rebounds off
the goal-post or cross-bar into the field of play. (b) it rebounds off
a Referee or Linesman when they are in the field of play. (c) in the event of a supposed infringment of the rules, until a decision is given. |
| MOVEMENT OF THE DISC |
Players
may motion the disc: (a) By passing to
teammate and in any direction. (b) By throwing at
the goal. (c) By spinning the
disc on the finger and zipping. (d) By tipping, batting or brushing the disc. |
Players
in possession: (e) Have three steps
to stop themselves after catching a disc and holding it. (f) May not travel
with a disc that is not spinning. (g) May pivot on one
foot to locate and pass to a reciever. (h) Have ten seconds to pass or run with the disc. |
Players may run with the disc: (i) When it is spinning on their finger. (j) When they are brushing the disc into the air. |
| SELF-STARTING |
A player may self-start the disc by starting the rotation of the disc after having possession. The player may then run or brush the disc so long as it is spinning. A player is allowed only one self-start per possession. If a player catches the disc with a finger in the cone from a teammates pass or interception the player may run with that disc and is still allowed one self-start. Once a player's self start stops spinning, the player must stop and throw the disc to another player. |
| TURN-OVERS |
Loss
of possession will occur when: (a) A disc is thrown
out of bounds. (b) A player drops
the disc and it is not recovered by another teammate. (c) A pass is
intercepted by the opposition. (d) A foul is commited in a case where the offense fouls the defense. |
| A player who is brushing or running with the disc may lose possession if an opponent grabs the spinning disc from his or her finger or grabs the disc from the air between brushing percussions. |
| FREE-THROW |
| Free-throws will be classified under two headings: "Direct" (from which a goal can be scored directly against the offending side), and "Indirect" (from which a goal cannot be scored unless the disc has been played or touched by another player other than the thrower before passing through the goal). |
| When a player is taking a direct or an indirect free-throw, all of the opposing players must be at least 10 meters from the thrower. The thrower may not play the disc a second time until it has been played or touched by another player. |
| An indirect or direct free-throw will be taken from the place where the infringment occured, unless the offence is committed by a player in his or her opponents' quarter area, in which case the throw will be taken on the quarter line. |
| A player awarded a free throw must take the throw and may not self-start until the player receives the disc again. |
| THROW-IN |
| When the disc touches the ground outside of the sideline or touches a player who is outside of the sideline, it will be thrown in at the point where it went out by a player of the opposing team. The thrower must throw the disc from behind the line. The disc is in play immediately as it enters the field. |
| At no time during the course of play can a player regain control of a disc that touches the ground or is dropped until another player has touched the disc. Goals may not be scored directly from a throw in with the exception of a comer throw. |
| GOAL-THROW |
| When the disc touches the ground outside of the goal-line or touches a player who is outside of the goal-line, having last been touched or played by a member of the offence, the goalie of the defending team will take a goal-throw, i.e. the goal-thrower will stand within the goal-zone and throw from that position. The disc must be thrown beyond the quarter zone or the throw will be retaken. |
| CORNER-THROW |
| When the disc touches the ground outside of the goal-line or touches a player who is outside of the goal-line, having last been touched or played by a member of the defending team, a member of the opposing team will take a comer-throw, i.e. the corner-thrower will stand at the corner within one meter from the corner and throw from that position. A goal may be scored directly from that position. Opposing players must be more than 10 meters from the corner until the disc is in play. The corner-thrower has the option to throw directly into the goal for a two point score or pass to a teammate who can tip or brush the disc in for one point. |
| SUMMARY |
These rules are to be followed in a formal game of UltraFlow. Use them as a guideline for informal play. Here is a re-cap of some major rules to follow: (a) One point may be scored within the
quarter line by brushing, tipping or zipping. A player may throw into the goal as long as
the throw is assisted by a tip, brush, zip or deflection. (b) Two points may be scored from a throw
that originated outside the quarter-line or from a corner-throw. These two point throws
may not be assissted by a tip or brush before entering the goal. (c) Players may not run with the disc unless
they are spinning it or brushing it. (d) A dropped disc is not an automatic turnover. It
is treated like a fumble and may be recovered by a teammate of the player who dropped it
or an opposing player. The player who fumbled may not recover the disc until it is touched
by another player. (e) In a recreational or school match, the duration of the game will depend on time allowed by the instructor or a point limit may be set. |
| UltraFlow is designed to be a non-contact sport with rules to follow, however, the nature of the game wilt lend itself to aggressive play. Keep this in mind when foul Decisions armade to insure non-stop action competition. |
| Referee's have been designated for formal play. As with all team sports, they are not necessary for recreational play. |
